MEPs call for more respectful language

Ahead of the EU Day of Solidarity between Generations, 29 April, a group of 13 MEPs has called on their peers to be more respectful towards older persons in their institutional language. Even in recent resolutions of the European Parliament that support older persons’ human rights, such as on the situation of human rights in the world, older persons are collectively named as ‘the elderly’.

‘Old continent growing older’: EP sketches out an ambitious agenda for coherent ageing policies

The European Parliament has recently adopted a major resolution, ‘Old continent growing older’, which addresses a number of important issues in relation to ageing. Adopted by a large majority, the resolution aims to contribute to shaping coherent ageing policies, following the release of the Commission’s Green Paper on Ageing and its consultation process.
